What is the difference between a carpet and a rug?
The term carpet and rugs are used loosely interchangeable both are floor coverings. Differentiating the two is the of size.
Carpets commonly cover the entire room area. Size that is more than 40ft or 6 x 9 is a carpet and anything less is a rug. They accentuate the theme of the room.
Rugs have more uses, it can be use to highlight the flooring of the room by being a centerpiece, hung on a wall as a wall decor, a foot rug, bed rug etc. It has more style and patterns for decor.
Regardless of their size, rugs and carpets may consist of the same pile (wool, silk, hemp or, in the case of modern factory-made carpets, jute.)
